hotdog2Since so many people enjoyed the previous posts about making cheap fun Halloween costumes I thought some of you last minute costume seekers might need even more ideas. The following costume ideas are super simple, can be made in a jiffy, and if they cost you anything it’s just a few dollars.

Costumes for couples, families, and friends:

  • -Pair of dice- Two large boxes can be painted white or red with black or white dots. If you don’t want to paint your dots on use colored paper, cut out circles, and glue them on your painted box.
  • -The Flintstones- Remember the cartoon? Their clothes always had that torn look around the edges. If you don’t have any old clothes to tear up at home check out the clearance bin at the fabric store for plain cheap fabric. Hot glue or sew it together in a caveman fashion. Mom could be Wilma, Dad could be Fred, daughter could be Pebbles. If you have a boy be Barney, Betty, and Bambam. Partner with another family and be the whole gang!

Costumes for kiddos or even your inner child:

  • -A movie theater floor- wear a solid color shirt and matching pants. Pin, glue, sew, or tape on candy wrappers, soda cups, and popcorn.
  • -Ballerina-If you have a ballet student then you already have a complete costume. If not, you can make a simple tutu in less than an hour and under $5. Click here for the no-sew pattern. This is cute with everything from a pain colored t-shirt to leggings or tights.
  • -Mail Carrier-With a plain shirt and pants, and a bag slung over the shoulder your child can be the mail carrier. Put a few pieces of junk mail sticking out of the bag but be sure to mark out your personal info. If your child want to look like a “real” mail carrier they need to shred up the edges of their clothes and attach a stuffed dog to the back of their pants.
  • -Painter-Have your child wear solid color sweats and a hat. Let them collect candy in an old empty cleaned out pain bucket while carrying a paintbrush. A t-shirt and jeans would also work well with this painters costume. If they are wearing old play clothing you can splatter it with paint a few days before to really play up the profession.

A simple solution to a last minute costume idea is to take an outfit you already have and consider it a costume. As talked about before, if you have a ballerina, let her wear her ballet outfit. The same goes for a Girl Scout, Boy Scout, soccer player, basketball star, or anything along those lines. If your child has a specific outfit for a specific activity it instantly becomes a free Halloween costume.  Same goes for a work uniform.  Wear your uniform and you’re considered in the Halloween spirit!

As always, look around your house for free items to use in your costume. Halloween is about having fun and eating lots of candy, not charging $30 a costume on your credit card. Before you run out and buy anything see what you have that could work instead.  If you use one of these ideas or have some of your own leave a comment!
