Well, Nick is working hard at many many angles here, and today I tried to figure out how to use Facebook as a vehicle to get WWHOW out there. Still not sure how effective this is, but was able to successfully create a fan page and blast it out to others.

Kind of fun. Will need to work other social networking avenues here to get the word out.

The beauty of this app still hasn’t taken root – but it can be such a great vehicle for local merchants to quickly and easily (and freely) advertise specials.  In light of a down economy and many stores going under, isn’t this something that would be a welcome tool?

www.killerstartups.com

So, there’s a site out there called killerstartups.com … in their own words:  We review 15+ internet startups per working day. Vote for the one you think will be a killer.

To our surprise, WWHOW! showed up there today and already has 5 votes!  Amazingly enough (and this is true!), it wasn’t one of us from the WWHOW team that submitted our little app to this site.   It was on our list to do of course, but happily, someone found us first and did the work for us.

Thanks to RogerH for finding our site and submitting us.

We think we have a great application and we hope that everyone can make “every cent count”.

Where is one of the key pieces of info to put up on WWHOW — since we’re posting local deals, we all need to know where to go.  Here’s what to do… a few examples:

Store @ address, city, state

Store @ street intersection, airport code

Store @ city (or airport code)

Store @ zip code

Some real life examples:

Walgreens @ 3rd and mission, sfo

Lee’s Deli @ 94111

Banana Republic @ sfo

Ok – so I vividly remember my mom cutting coupons when I was young. It appears that with club and savings cards, the coupon has pretty much gone the way of the rotary phone.

Is there some way that WWHOW can help would-be coupon clippers? Potentially yes!

So there I was in Safeway this morning, and there were neon signs posted everywhere for really good deals. I don’t know if those deals were specific to that store (the Safeway at 7th and Cabrillo) but I thought they probably were and I immediately thought of using WWHOW. Staple items like deli meat, blueberries, blackberries, potatoes, eggs – all pretty well discounted… stuff was cheaper than at Trader Joes. I was really glad I picked Safeway to shop at this morning.  And I put up several posts too.

I am seeing more and more stores closing their doors and liquidating all of their merchandise.  I guess that’s what happens during a recession when everyone stops spending money.  Frightening signs of the times. Today I drove by Shabby Chic on Fillmore Street in SF with huge liquidation signs in the windows.  I also talked to a friend who told me that Yard Birds stores are closing… he went to the Concord store and got great deals.

I guess for folks who have money to spend, but are watching their wallets, these are opportunities to grab good deals.  So WWHOW is pretty well positioned to get this kind of word out.

So, a random walk today resulted in my going past my favorite downtown bookstore in SF…only to discover it’s closed… or closing. Stacey’s has succumbed (I assume) to the recession, Amazon etc. and now, there are no books left, and they are selling off everything from bookcases, tables, and old computer monitors (that most folks are trying to get rid of).

Why does this make me want to use WWHOW? Well, I really wish that someone had posted the fact that the store was closing and books were on sale… BEFORE everything was cleared out and they started selling the fixtures.  I would have been able to go to my old haunt, poke around, buy some books on sale, and say goodbye.  I shudder to think that this is the fate of independent bookstores.

(and yet, it also would have presented a great way to utilize the services of WWHOW!).

1.  go shopping

2.  most likely in a store

3.  a local store, small shop, garage sale, big store, even online

4.  see a great deal on something that is likely not advertised, limited offer, or something you know your friends would also love

5A.  go home, get on computer, go to wwhow.com, log in (or sign up), and post the deal – WHAT, WHERE, HOW MUCH?   (put in WHERE like this:  store name @ address, city)

OR

5B.  go to Twitter, send a tweet to @wwhow. Format your tweet as follows: what # store @ address, city # how much

6.  search around on WWHOW for some deals that other people put up.

7.  go back to Step 1.

what else could this little baby be called?  Keep it simple, right?

WWHOW

What

Where

HOW much

It’s  perfect, short, unique, easy to say, meaningful, and it’s even an interjection (which shows excitment or emotion and is generally set apart from a sentence by an exclamation point…)

pretty cool Alfonso….I do love the search!

I am poking around and realize that I have to use a different computer or browser. I’m on the home computer which is a mac – and I think this will work best on Firefox vs I/E or Safari  :(

So now, what’s my biggest issue? TIME. I need more of it. Between day job, kids, and keeping sane, I am searching for the time to devote here…  Will figure it out.
